Architectural Draftsperson


At Drafting Steelwork Pty Ltd, trading as DatumCo, we offer a wide array of specialized services, including residential planning application management, architectural drafting, structural steel detailing, surveying, and landscape design and architecture.

We are now urgently looking for an experienced Architectural Draftsperson to join our dynamic team in Newton, South Australia to deliver innovative and accurate drafting solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Assist in the planning, coordination, and delivery of residential and commercial construction projects, as well as landscape architecture projects.
  2. Interpret and apply building plans, council regulations, Australian standards, and local codes of practice to ensure accurate compliance at every stage of design and documentation.
  3. Produce design sketches, comprehensive working drawings, structural detailing, and clear specifications, effectively translating architectural concepts into technical documentation.
  4. Prepare, refine, and revise precise architectural plans, landscape layouts, survey maps, structural steel detail drawings, and associated documentation aligned with client requirements.
  5. Collaborate closely with internal teams to coordinate detailed works programs, ensuring integration of planning, surveying, structural detailing, and landscape components.
  6. Conduct site inspections and assessments, verifying works and materials for adherence to project drawings, specifications, local council regulations, and relevant industry standards.
  7. Provide accurate cost estimations, material take-offs, and detailed time schedules, contributing proactively to effective project budgeting and planning.
  8. Collect and process surveying data using modern surveying instruments and photogrammetric technologies to ensure drafting accuracy across residential and landscape design projects.
  9. Execute routine technical calculations and accurately plot project data to assist the related team in making informed design decisions.

Requirements

  1. Diploma or Degree qualification in related field. Or at least 3 years can substitute for formal qualifications.
  2. Minimum of 1-2 years’ professional experience as an Architectural Draftsperson or a closely related role.
  3. Proficiency in industry-standard software.
  4. Familiarity with Australian Standards, Building Codes, and local council planning requirements.
  5. Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and ability to interpret complex architectural and structural designs.
  6. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the capability to effectively collaborate across multiple disciplines.
