The office of the Hon Tanya Plibersek MP is seeking applications for an ongoing, full-time Senior Media Adviser (Adviser 3) to join the team based in Sydney.
We are a collaborative office. The successful applicant will support the values of the Member and progressive policy agenda of the Australian Government.
We are seeking interest from experienced media advisers with particular expertise in digital communications and new media who are committed to working for the Minister for Social Services.
The key duties of the position are, but are not limited to:
- Digital strategy, content creation and reporting across all channels.
- Managing new media, including online and podcasts.
- Assist in designing campaigns (online and print).
- Managing video message requests, scheduling, co-ordination, and filming.
- Managing incoming media requests.
- Compiling daily media summaries, on roster.
- Regular travel between Sydney and Canberra, and interstate as required.
- Other duties as required.
The ideal applicant should possess the following skills, qualifications, and experience:
- Strong media, social media, interpersonal and stakeholder engagement skills with meticulous attention to detail.
- Video scripting, production, filming and editing skills.
- High levels of professionalism, confidentiality, and discretion.
- A familiarity with the functions of government.
- Well-developed office and IT competency particularly with Microsoft Office and new media software.
- Highly developed oral and written communication skills.
- Research skills.
- Strong time management and organisational skills.
- A positive outlook and ability to work collaboratively in a small team.
- Ability to work under pressure, with time constraints and with minimum supervision.
- Capacity to work irregular hours (some evenings, early mornings and weekends) as required.
Employment conditions:
The position is offered under the Members of Parliament (Staff) Act 1984 and conditions are outlined in the Commonwealth Members of Parliament Staff Enterprise Agreement 2024-27 which include:
- A commencing salary between $105,769 and $156,089 will be negotiated depending on experience and relevant skills.
- An additional optional allowance of $32,970 may be considered in recognition of, and as compensation for, reasonable additional hours of work and any travel requirements.
- The above salary and allowance are subject to a pay increase on 5 August 2025.
- Relocation assistance, studies assistance and paid study leave may also be available (subject to eligibility requirements).
- An employer superannuation contribution of 15.4% will be payable.

- Staff may be subject to automatic cessation triggers in accordance with Section 14 of the MOP(S) Act.
- The successful applicant will be required to comply with their obligations under the Behaviour Codes and Standards.
- For staff employed by a Minister or Parliamentary Secretary either in a personal or electorate staff position, it is a condition of your employment that you obtain and maintain a Negative Vetting 2 security clearance and comply with the Ministerial Staff Code of Conduct.
