Job Summary:

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Accountant to join our professional team. The role involves preparing financial statements and tax returns, managing compliance obligations (including payroll), providing business advisory services, and delivering strategic insights to clients. This position offers significant exposure to a broad range of entity types and business structures.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Prepare accurate and compliant financial statements and income tax returns for companies, trusts, partnerships, individuals, and SMSFs.
  2. Complete and lodge Business Activity Statements (BAS), ensuring compliance with GST legislation.
  3. Prepare and lodge payroll tax returns and assist with payroll compliance across multiple states.
  4. Support clients with Single Touch Payroll (STP) reporting, reconciliations, and superannuation obligations.
  5. Process and review client payrolls, ensuring accurate wages, leave, entitlements, tax, and superannuation calculations.
  6. Liaise with the ATO and other authorities on audits, notices, and compliance matters on behalf of clients.
  7. Conduct financial investigations and prepare reports for matters such as mergers, acquisitions, insolvency, fraud, and business transactions.
  8. Review and analyse operating costs, income, and expenditure to provide insights on improving financial performance.
  9. Perform detailed financial analysis, including variance, ratio analysis, and performance reviews.
  10. Provide strategic taxation and financial advice on business structures, operational plans, and long-term financial objectives.
  11. Support the development of budgetary and accounting policies tailored to client needs.
  12. Assist with cash flow forecasting, budget formulation, and strategic financial planning for clients.
  13. Implement and maintain accounting systems, including advising clients on the selection and use of appropriate computer-based accounting software.

Skills and Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline.
  2. CPA or CA qualification (or equivalent).
  3. Experience in a Big 4 or mid-tier accounting or advisory firm.
  4. Proficiency in accounting software such as Xero, MYOB, QuickBooks, and Microsoft Excel.
  5. Knowledge of Australian taxation legislation, payroll tax obligations, and STP compliance.
  6. Familiarity with SMSFs, multi-entity accounting, and cloud-based systems.
  7. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail.
  8. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to confidently liaise with clients and stakeholders.
  9. Ability to multi-task and manage both individual and team workflows effectively.
  10. Experience in business advisory, due diligence, or financial modelling is an advantage.
