Communications Adviser (Adviser 3 (non-Ministerial)) - David Littleproud MP


Applications are invited for the full-time ongoing position of Communications Adviser in the Office of the Leader of The Nationals, the Hon. David Littleproud MP, based in Canberra, ACT.

The successful candidate will be a skilled media and digital communications professional who has a passion for crafting compelling and engaging digital content and written copy that speaks to a wide variety of audiences. The role involves translating complex policy issues into clear and engaging content. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to important national conversations and to help The Nationals advance the interests of regional Australia. The role will require extensive domestic travel.

The key duties of the position are, but are not limited to:

  1. Creating and managing content for digital platforms.
  2. Conducting videography and photography.
  3. Editing and posting videos, podcasts, and written content.
  4. Measuring and reporting on the performance of digital content.
  5. Supporting the Senior Media Adviser in managing day to day media activities.
  6. Liaising with journalists and assisting to manage and respond to media enquiries.
  7. Drafting media releases, talking points, opinion pieces & media lines.
  8. Monitoring of regional and metro media.

The ideal applicant should possess the following skills, qualifications and experience:

  1. Tertiary qualifications in marketing, communications, journalism or a related field.
  2. At least 2 years of experience in digital content creation.
  3. Excellent writing and editing skills, with an ability to simplify complex topics.
  4. A deep understanding of social media and other digital platforms.
  5. Proficiency in graphic design and video editing software is desirable.
  6. Advanced photography and videography skills.
  7. A creative, innovative mindset with an ability to generate new content ideas and formats.
  8. Excellent organisational and time management skills.
  9. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work in a team in a fast-paced environment.
  10. Ability to work outside of normal hours and participate in rostered weekend media duty.

Employment conditions:

The position is offered under the Members of Parliament (Staff) Act 1984 and conditions are outlined in the Commonwealth Members of Parliament Staff Enterprise Agreement 2024-27 which include:

  1. A commencing salary between $109,788 and $154,780 will be negotiated depending on experience and relevant skills.
  2. An additional personal staff allowance of $34,223 is paid in recognition of, and as compensation for, reasonable additional hours of work.
  3. Relocation assistance, studies assistance and paid study leave may also be available (subject to eligibility requirements).
  4. An employer superannuation contribution of 15.4% will be payable.

  1. A probationary period of three months will apply and may be subject to extension.
  2. The successful applicant may be required to undergo a National Police History Check.
  3. Staff may be subject to automatic cessation triggers in accordance with Section 14 of the MOP(S) Act.
  4. The successful applicant will be required to comply with their obligations under the Behaviour Codes and Standards.
