About the Role: We are seeking a qualifiedEngineering Technologist to join our growing team. This role involves applying engineering technologies to support the fabrication, and erection of structural steel projects. The successful candidate will work closely with engineers, project managers, architects, and trades to ensure high-quality outcomes.
Please note: The role will require travel to various client and construction sites across Sydney.
Key Responsibilities
·Analyse, adapt & apply engineering principles to support & improve the planning, fabrication, and erection of structural-steel projects across residential, commercial and industrial sites.
·Review and interpret engineering drawings, fabrication details, and specifications to ensure compliance with Australian Standards, building codes and client requirements.
·Investigate fabrication and erection processes, identify potential issues, and develop practical, innovative solutions that improve safety, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.
·Provide advice to workshop and site teams, including project managers and tradespeople, to resolve drafting, or fabrication issues through fabrication to erection.
·Prepare and maintain accurate technical documentation, progress reports, and project records in line with company and client standards.
·Collaborate with engineers, architects, project managers, and trades personnel(boilermakers, welders, riggers) to ensure design intent is effectively translated into fabrication and installation outcomes.
·Support quality-assurance activities by monitoring materials, tolerances, and adherence to safety and regulatory requirements throughout the project lifecycle.
·Contribute to project planning and scheduling by providing technical input on design complexity, material selection, and fabrication lead times.
·Promote and maintain adherence to workplace health, safety, and environmental standards across all engineering and fabrication operations.
·Accurately read and interpret architectural and structural drawings to guide fabrication and assembly processes.
·Develop precise 3D steel models using Tekla Structures or Bocad, ensuring full coordination with project specifications and site conditions.
·Prepare detailed shop, assembly, and general-arrangement (GA) drawings for approval and production.
·Design and document welded and bolted connections, ensuring structural integrity, constructability, and compliance with relevant codes and standards.
Requirements & Qualifications
·Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Engineering (Civil, Mechanical, Structural, or related discipline).
·Minimum of 12 months demonstrated experience in applying engineering technologies in a structural steel, fabrication, or construction environment.
·Strong understanding of structural engineering principles and steel fabrication processes.
·Proficiency in interpreting and working with technical drawings, shop details, and specifications.
·Knowledge of Australian Standards, National Construction Code, and OH&S requirements.
·Familiarity with CAD or similar software for reviewing and interpreting drawings (desirable).
·Excellent communication and problem-solving skills with the ability to liaise effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
·Must hold a current Construction Induction (White Card) to access and work on construction sites.
·Additional site safety tickets (e.g. Working at Heights, Elevated Work Platform) will be viewed favourably
·Commitment to ongoing professional development and adaptability to new engineering technologies.
