Position Purpose
The Telecommunications Field Engineer is responsible for the planning, installation, configuration, and maintenance of telecommunications and networking systems across Brar & Khokhar Pty Ltd.’s client projects.
The role ensures that voice, data, and broadband networks operate efficiently and reliably, meeting the growing demand for high-performance digital infrastructure in residential, commercial, and industrial sites.
This position is critical to maintaining the company’s technical service capacity and meeting project deadlines across multiple locations. It requires a qualified professional with advanced technical knowledge, problem-solving ability, and experience working with complex NBN systems, structured cabling, and integrated communication equipment.
The Field Engineer plays a key role in ensuring that all installations comply with Australian standards, client specifications, and safety regulations, while providing on-site technical advice and system commissioning support.
Key Responsibilities
• Plan, install, and commission telecommunications and network systems including fibre, copper, broadband, and wireless data cabling infrastructure.
• Install and integrate NBN infrastructure such as FTTN, FTTB, and FTTP systems, DPUs, modems, and network termination devices.
• Interpret and apply technical drawings, specifications, and network schematics for accurate system setup and configuration.
• Conduct structured cabling, terminations, bracket fitting, hardware installation, and rack setup in line with safety and performance standards.
• Configure and integrate telecommunication technologies with computer systems, software, and client networks.
• Test, diagnose, and commission telecommunications and network equipment using specialized diagnostic tools.
• Monitor network performance and recommend upgrades or replacements to optimize reliability and capacity.
• Provide end-user training, technical orientation, and troubleshooting for installed hardware and software.
• Coordinate with senior supervisors, off-site engineers, and contractors to ensure smooth project execution.
• Conduct on-site inspections, quality assurance testing, and compliance checks with client and regulatory standards.
• Maintain and update detailed installation records, technical reports, and asset inventory documentation.
• Ensure adherence to WHS regulations, electrical safety standards, and company operating procedures.
• Provide technical feedback and contribute to improving field processes and equipment performance.
Qualifications and Experience
• Minimum 1 year of experience in telecommunications, network engineering, or related technical fields.
• Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications Engineering, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, or equivalent qualification.
• Relevant industry certifications (e.g. Cisco CCNA/CCNP, Juniper, or wireless networking certifications) are highly desirable.
• Sound knowledge of telecommunications systems, data networks, and broadband technologies.
