Our product range also includes probiotic drinks, rice pudding, falafel, muesli, and fruit purees. We are looking for an Engineering Technologist to join the team! In this role, you will apply engineering knowledge and technology to support the research, development, and optimisation of yoghurt manufacturing processes. The role ensures that production systems, quality standards, and safety procedures are aligned with engineering principles, food industry regulations, and commercial objectives. This is a full-time ongoing position, working 38 hours per week based in Morningside Brisbane, QLD.
Main tasks:
-Manage research and development projects related to yoghurt manufacturing, from concept formulation through to production trials and commercial release.
-Design and develop new yoghurt products in line with marketing requirements, integrating engineering solutions to improve production consistency and efficiency.
-Conduct engineering evaluations and tests on yoghurt formulations and raw materials (milk, cultures, flavourings, stabilisers), monitoring outcomes to ensure quality and compliance.
-Apply engineering methodologies to assess yoghurt products for texture, flavour, nutritional profile, and shelf-life stability.
-Prepare and maintain technical documentation, including ingredient specifications, nutritional analyses, shelf-life reports, and quality assurance records.
-Evaluate and qualify new suppliers of dairy inputs and food additives, ensuring compliance with engineering and food manufacturing standards.
-Identify and implement process improvements across yoghurt production lines, focusing on automation, efficiency, waste reduction, and cost control.
-Oversee production activities to ensure compliance with food industry codes, HACCP principles, and workplace health and safety requirements.
-Develop, implement, and monitor quality control procedures specific to yoghurt production, ensuring consistency, safety, and regulatory compliance.
-Provide technical advice on yoghurt processing, fermentation, packaging, refrigeration, and distribution to optimise quality and maintain product integrity.
Required/Relevant Qualifications & Work Experience:
-Minimum of a relevant bachelor’s degree qualification plus minimum 1 year’ relevant work experience in the last 5 years.
Required/Relevant Skills & Knowledge:
-Strong knowledge of ingredients, food science, food laws, regulations, GMP and HACCP.
-Strong analytical data skills and problem-solving skills.
-High level of attention to detail with excellent organisational skills.
-Ability to learn and work across multiple software packages.
-Strong communication skills and ability to give clear and direct instructions.
-An enthusiastic, approachable, and positive manner.
-Proven ability to work effectively within a small team environment and culture where flexibility is essential.
Annual salary will be between $76,000.00 to $86,000.00 (plus superannuation) depending on level of experience.
