CNC Machinist/Programmer


We're a small family owned machining services business with significant machining capability, we require the services of a skilled metal machinist with manual and CNC lathe and milling machines experience, and CNC CAD/CAM/programming experience.

Work is mainly general engineering/jobbing work to good tolerance and finishes. Typically work is to drawings and/or samples.

Work is varied, sometimes challenging, keeping you engaged with interesting and meaningful work every day. Working mainly with ferrous materials and sometimes non-ferrous materials, machining various types of components related mainly to mining machinery/equipment and also various other industries.

Standard roster is Monday to Friday.

Position requirements and Essential Skills:

- Turner/Metal Machinist Class 1/Cert III Engineering trade certificate or recognized equivalent

- Manual machining experience with conventional milling machines and lathes, and CNC machining experience, working with ferrous and non-ferrous material

- CNC Programming, Setting and Operating CNC Machines (all our CNC machines are similar to Fanuc)

- Programming experience using CAD CAM software, the ability to use Fusion 360 is highly desirable

- Interpret drawings with an eye for detail

- Have a strong work ethic and be able to work unsupervised

- Have a good attitude and be willing to keep learning

- Be comfortable operating more than one CNC machine at a time where possible

- Work to deadlines and produce quality workmanship at all times

- Willing to work overtime if required

Position Duties:

- Read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications to program, set up and

operate CNC machines.

-Use CAD/CAM package software such as Autodesk Fusion 360 to create 3D solid models from 2D drawings and create machining tool paths to generate CNC programs

- Write and modify CNC programs using G-code and other programming languages to meet customer specifications.

- Set up and operate manual milling machines, lathes, grinders, and other machine tools to produce precision parts.

- Perform quality control checks on machined parts using precision measuring tools such as micrometers, gauges, and calipers.

- Troubleshoot and solve problems with CNC machines and manual equipment to ensure maximum productivity and efficiency.

- Develop and maintain tooling and fixture programs for CNC machines.

- Develop and implement process improvements to increase efficiency and reduce waste.

- Perform routine maintenance on machines and equipment, including cleaning and lubrication.

- Train and mentor junior machinists and operators on CNC programming and machining techniques.

- Follow safety procedures and guidelines to prevent accidents and injuries.

- Maintain accurate records of work performed and materials used.

- Maintain a clean and organized work area to ensure a safe and efficient work environment.

- Liaise with existing and new customers when required.
