About The Role and Responsibilities

Due to Neev Homes’ continued business expansion and increasing residential construction activity, the position of Civil Engineering Technician is required on a permanent basis to support project delivery, technical accuracy, and compliance across multiple sites. The role is integral to ensuring that construction activities align with approved designs, Australian Standards, and regulatory requirements, while supporting efficient workflows and minimising project risks.

The Civil Engineering Technician works closely with Civil Engineers, architects, site supervisors, and contractors to provide ongoing technical support throughout the construction lifecycle. This role has evolved into a critical operational function within the business, supporting consistent project outcomes and long-term business sustainability.

Detailed Duties and Responsibilities

Plan, Design and Technical Support

  1. Assist Civil Engineers and architects in preparing, reviewing, and updating technical drawings, plans, and structural layouts using engineering software such as AutoCAD and Revit.
  2. Review engineering drawings prior to issue to site to identify discrepancies and support accuracy and constructability.
  3. Support the implementation of design amendments during construction in consultation with engineers and project stakeholders.

Site Inspections and Compliance

  1. Conduct regular site inspections to monitor construction activities against approved plans, specifications, and engineering standards.
  2. Assist in verifying compliance with the National Construction Code (NCC), relevant Australian Standards, and local council or certifier conditions.
  3. Support coordination with surveyors, certifiers, and inspectors as required during project stages.

Testing and Analysis:

  1. Conduct fieldwork and laboratory tests for construction materials and soils.
  2. Collect, analyse, and interpret data to support engineering projects.
  3. Carry out computations and prepare reports for project assessments.

Quality Control and Material Testing

  1. Assist with material testing and verification to ensure suitability and compliance with engineering and project specifications.
  2. Identify non-conformances and report findings to engineers and project managers to prevent defects, rework, or delays.
  3. Maintain quality assurance records, inspection checklists, and technical documentation.

Cost Estimation and Compliance:

  1. Estimate material costs and ensure completed works meet specifications, regulations, and contract provisions.
  2. Study and interpret legislation, contracts, and standards to maintain compliance.

Project Coordination and Technical Problem Solving

  1. Work collaboratively with site supervisors, contractors, and engineers to resolve technical issues encountered during construction.
  2. Monitor construction progress from a technical perspective and assist in identifying risks that may impact timelines or quality.
  3. Support sequencing of works by providing technical input to improve efficiency and minimise disruption.

Documentation and Reporting

  1. Prepare and maintain engineering documentation, including site reports, inspection records, test results, and compliance summaries.
  2. Assist in compiling documentation required for audits, handovers, and regulatory review.
  3. Ensure accurate record-keeping in accordance with internal quality systems and regulatory expectations.

Work Health and Safety Support

  1. Assist in ensuring works are carried out in accordance with site safety requirements, including SWMS and JSA documentation.
  2. Identify safety or compliance concerns during site visits and escalate appropriately.
  3. Promote safe work practices and adherence to company safety policies.

Team Support and Continuity

  1. Provide technical guidance and support to junior technicians, drafters, or site staff as required.
  2. Assist with onboarding and technical familiarisation of new team members.
  3. Act as a consistent technical point of contact across multiple projects, supporting continuity and knowledge retention within the business.

Qualifications, experience and other requirements for Civil Engineering Technician

  1. Qualification assessed at AQF Diploma level with an additional qualification at AQF Certificate IV in a highly relevant field (e.g., Civil Engineering or Engineering Drafting – Civil Design) OR at least three years of relevant experience may substitute for the formal qualifications listed above.
  2. Recent 3 years of Full-time relevant work experience in construction as civil engineering Technician.
  3. Ability to interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation
  4. Working knowledge of Australian building codes and regulatory requirements
  5. Experience with AutoCAD, Revit, or similar engineering software
  6. Strong attention to detail, organisational skills, and problem-solving ability
  7. Ability to work collaboratively within a site-based and office-based team environment
